~Genesis 24:1 And Abraham was old, [and] well stricken in age. AndJehovah had blessed Abraham in all things.
~Genesis 24:2 And Abraham said unto his servant, the elder of hishouse, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand undermy thigh.
~Genesis 24:3 And I will make thee swear by Jehovah, the God ofheaven and the God of the earth, that thou wilt not take a wife for myson of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell.
~Genesis 24:4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred,and take a wife for my son Isaac.
~Genesis 24:5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure thewoman will not be willing to follow me unto this land. Must I needsbring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
~Genesis 24:6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thoubring not my son thither again.
~Genesis 24:7 Jehovah, the God of heaven, who took me from myfather's house, and from the land of my nativity, and who spake untome, and who sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give thisland. He will send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife formy son from thence.
~Genesis 24:8 And if the woman be not willing to follow thee, thenthou shalt be clear from this my oath. Only thou shalt not bring myson thither again.
~Genesis 24:9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh ofAbraham his master, and sware to him concerning this matter.
~Genesis 24:10 And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of hismaster, and departed, having all goodly things of his master's in hishand. And he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city ofNahor.
~Genesis 24:11 And he made the camels to kneel down without thecity by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that womengo out to draw water.
~Genesis 24:12 And he said, O Jehovah, the God of my masterAbraham, send me, I pray thee, good speed this day, and showkindness unto my master Abraham.
~Genesis 24:13 Behold, I am standing by the fountain of water. Andthe daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.
~Genesis 24:14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom Ishall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink. And sheshall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also. Let the samebe she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac. And therebyshall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master.
~Genesis 24:15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking,that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son ofMilcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher uponher shoulder.
~Genesis 24:16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin,neither had any man known her. And she went down to the fountain,and filled her pitcher, and came up.
~Genesis 24:17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Give me todrink, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher.
~Genesis 24:18 And she said, Drink, my lord. And she hasted, and letdown her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
~Genesis 24:19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, Iwill draw for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
~Genesis 24:20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into thetrough, and ran again unto the well to draw, and drew for all hiscamels.
~Genesis 24:21 And the man looked stedfastly on her, holding hispeace, to know whether Jehovah had made his journey prosperous ornot.
~Genesis 24:22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking,that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and twobracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,
~Genesis 24:23 and said, Whose daughter art thou? Tell me, I praythee. Is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?
~Genesis 24:24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuelthe son of Milcah, whom she bare unto Nahor.
~Genesis 24:25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw andprovender enough, and room to lodge in.
~Genesis 24:26 And the man bowed his head, and worshippedJehovah.
~Genesis 24:27 And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of mymaster Abraham, who hath not forsaken his lovingkindness and histruth toward my master. As for me, Jehovah hath led me in the way tothe house of my master's brethren.
~Genesis 24:28 And the damsel ran, and told her mother's houseaccording to these words.
~Genesis 24:29 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban:and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the fountain.
~Genesis 24:30 And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and thebracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words ofRebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me. That hecame unto the man. And, behold, he was standing by the camels atthe fountain.
~Genesis 24:31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of Jehovah.Wherefore standest thou without? For I have prepared the house, androom for the camels.
~Genesis 24:32 And the man came into the house, and he ungirded thecamels. And he gave straw and provender for the camels, and waterto wash his feet and the feet of the men that were with him.
~Genesis 24:33 And there was set food before him to eat. But he said,I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.
~Genesis 24:34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant.
~Genesis 24:35 And Jehovah hath blessed my master greatly. And heis become great. And he hath given him flocks and herds, and silverand gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels and asses.
~Genesis 24:36 And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my masterwhen she was old. And unto him hath he given all that he hath.
~Genesis 24:37 And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shaltnot take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, inwhose land I dwell.
~Genesis 24:38 But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to mykindred, and take a wife for my son.
~Genesis 24:39 And I said unto my master, Peradventure the womanwill not follow me.
~Genesis 24:40 And he said unto me, Jehovah, before whom I walk,will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way. And thou shalttake a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house.
~Genesis 24:41 Then shalt thou be clear from my oath, when thoucomest to my kindred. And if they give her not to thee, thou shalt beclear from my oath.
~Genesis 24:42 And I came this day unto the fountain, and said, OJehovah, the God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper myway which I go.
~Genesis 24:43 Behold, I am standing by the fountain of water. Andlet it come to pass, that the maiden that cometh forth to draw, towhom I shall say, Give me, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcherto drink.
~Genesis 24:44 And she shall say to me, Both drink thou, and I willalso draw for thy camels. Let the same be the woman whom Jehovahhath appointed for my master's son.
~Genesis 24:45 And before I had done speaking in my heart, behold,Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder. And she wentdown unto the fountain, and drew. And I said unto her, Let me drink,I pray thee.
~Genesis 24:46 And she made haste, and let down her pitcher fromher shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also.So I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
~Genesis 24:47 And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou?And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcahbare unto him. And I put the ring upon her nose, and the braceletsupon her hands.
~Genesis 24:48 And I bowed my head, and worshipped Jehovah, andblessed Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me inthe right way to take my master's brother's daughter for his son.
~Genesis 24:49 And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with mymaster, tell me. And if not, tell me. That I may turn to the right hand,or to the left.
~Genesis 24:50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thingproceedeth from Jehovah. We cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
~Genesis 24:51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, andlet her be thy master's son's wife, as Jehovah hath spoken.
~Genesis 24:52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servantheard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth unto Jehovah.
~Genesis 24:53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, andjewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah. He gave alsoto her brother and to her mother precious things.
~Genesis 24:54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that werewith him, and tarried all night. And they rose up in the morning, andhe said, Send me away unto my master.
~Genesis 24:55 And her brother and her mother said, Let the damselabide with us [a few] days, at the least ten. After that she shall go.
~Genesis 24:56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeingJehovah hath prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to mymaster.
~Genesis 24:57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and inquire ather mouth.
~Genesis 24:58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thougo with this man? And she said, I will go.
~Genesis 24:59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and hernurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.
~Genesis 24:60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Oursister, be thou [the mother] of thousands of ten thousands, and let thyseed possess the gate of those that hate them.
~Genesis 24:61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rodeupon the camels, and followed the man. And the servant tookRebekah, and went his way.
~Genesis 24:62 And Isaac came from the way of Beer-lahai-roi. Forhe dwelt in the land of the South.
~Genesis 24:63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at theeventide. And he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, there werecamels coming.
~Genesis 24:64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she sawIsaac, she alighted from the camel.
~Genesis 24:65 And she said unto the servant, What man is this thatwalketh in the field to meet us? And the servant said, It is my master.And she took her veil, and covered herself.
~Genesis 24:66 And the servant told Isaac all the things that he haddone.
~Genesis 24:67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent,and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. And he loved her. AndIsaac was comforted after his mother's death
